KARATE BOOGALOO (LIVE) & COLLEGE OF KNOWLEDGE (DJ SET) at Bellingen Golf Club

Sitting at the core of Melbourne’s burgeoning movement of cinematic instrumental soul, KarateBoogaloo’s roots go deep into the fabric of the DIY soul idiom. A mainstay of the Melbourneunderground for longer than a decade, their now sought-after three-volume ‘KB’s Mixtapes’series, two original LPs and collaboration with US singer Danielle Ponder are evidence of theirlong-standing contribution to the city's cinematic soul sound. 

This four piece seeks inspiration from the great small combo instrumental bands à la Booker T & The MG’sand The Meters. Coming off of a booming tour of Europe with College Of Knowledge labelmates Surprise Chef in2025, 2026 will see new music from Karate Boogaloo released via Colemine Records (US) andCollege Of Knowledge Records (AU) as well as some relentless touring! 

College Of Knowledge DJs are musical collaborators and friends. Endeavoring to represent the soulful side of the record racks; through thoughtful DJ sets; through the cinematic soul sound they push as Surprise Chef; and through the College Of Knowledge Records imprint. Their DJ sets are a reflection of a strong musical bond and deep friendship; enthusiastically and intuitively navigating the sounds of deep soul, super-funky-jazz, leftfield disco, foundation dancehall and boom bap hip hop records that fill their shared crates.
