It’s been almost a year since, as musician Rick Steele would likely put it, he fell off the planet. Sounds almost disrespectful but for those who knew him, his sense of humour was infectious. That was Rick down to a tee. A musician, story teller, a local legend, friend and mentor to many. Always there to lift up the common man, lend an ear or help out a fellow muso.

Next month marks the year anniversary of his passing. To honour his life and legacy, the Perth Blues Club will host The Inaugural Rick Steele Memorial Night to commemorate the anniversary of his death and celebrate his life, legacy and lasting influence.As club president for three decades, Rick's absence in the local music scene has been loud. He has been missed. And people still tell stories about him like he might walk in at any second, laugh at his own legend and ask what all the fuss is about.But like the sign over his office doorway reads “You Gotta Have A Plan”, so to honour that profound philosophy the plan is for this memorial night to bring together international and local acts for a night of music and memories.

The evening will feature performances by international and local acts. Hot off the tarmac and all the way from Singapore will be international blues act The Universal Blues Band (UBlues). 

Heating up the stage will also be Lightnin Jack bringing his own brand of blues to take you on a journey steeped in authenticity. As the recipient of the inaugural WAMI Rick Steele Blues Artist of the Year Award he's one of the local acts keeping the blues alive.

Rick’s longtime band of musical brothers The Hot Biscuit Band will deliver their special brand of the blues in honour of their front man with the help of specials guests including Bronnie Gordon and many other familiar faces.

And as Rick would say… “it’s a beautiful thing”!
