WASIA PROJECT - EARLY SHOW live at The Vanguard - Concert poster

WASIA PROJECT are bringing their cinematic-pop balladry to Sydney’s The Vanguard on Thursday, 2 July with their Piano Shows Tour. The show will mark the sibling duo’s first Australian performance ahead of debut album ‘Nocturne’ release in September.

Wasia Project, made up of siblings Olivia Hardy and Will Gao, are riding high on a wave of success following a North American tour supporting Laufey and sold-out headline shows across the UK and US.

The duo are set to chart a new hinterland on debut album, ‘Nocturne’, out this September. The siblings turn coming-of-age angst into catharsis, fashioning a kinetic journey steeped in the lore of the night; the heady introspection of twilight hours, and the euphoric embrace of the dancefloor where bodies commune and coexist.  Wasia Project’s dedicated audience first snowballed upon the release of EP ‘how can I pretend?’, and a run of dewy-eyed standalone singles released in 2022 and 2023. They gestured at a cooler sonic palette on transitional project ‘Isotope’, in 2024, and these somnambulant moodscapes would form the base notes to the tactile world of forthcoming album.  The sense of cultural dissonance Wasia Project once felt in the indie-pop diaspora is no longer something to be reckoned with: it’s an intrinsic part of their creative DNA. Their fused heritage is reflected in the silhouettes and skylines of Beijing, Hong Kong, Berlin and London, which form the milieu to their stories and visuals. Their latest work nods fondly to the intersection between wide-eyed youth and the more adult, evolved themes explored in ‘Noctourne’. “This album honours that our Chinese heritage is inherently a part of us,” Will explains. “It’s an ever-rich tapestry of influences and potential. This work feels limitless and boundless.”  Wasia Project’s Piano Shows tour visits Berlin, Manila and Hong Kong, finishing with a one-night-only Australian show on Thursday 2 July, “The piano shows are a chance to experience our songs in their rawest form, bringing a spotlight to the craft of songwriting and the essence of our work.”

“Heartstopper actor Will Gao and his sister Olivia Hardy mix modern jazz and indie with a wisdom beyond their years.” – The Guardian
