Duke of George presents

Tales from the Orient | Asian TOUR LAUNCH

A Musical Journey from Istanbul to the Indus River Delta

The Awakenings Ensemble presents an immersive musical experience fusing Middle Eastern and jazz traditions to launch their upcoming tour to Singapore, Taiwan and China. This narrative-driven performance takes audiences on a sonic journey from the coffee houses of Istanbul, through the mountain villages of Lebanon, to the poetry traditions of Persia and beyond.

Featuring master musicians from Australia, Iran, and Lebanon on traditional instruments including oud, ney, and daf within a contemporary jazz ensemble, Tales from the Orient explores how music builds bridges between cultures. Through composition, improvisation, and storytelling, the ensemble demonstrates the deep artistic connections achieved when different musical traditions meet.

Original compositions and inspired interpretations of timeless melodies from the Middle East blend to showcase the rich tapestry of influences from Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt. Shimmering instrumental textures are extended in select sections with haunting Persian vocals by Esfandiar Shahmir—a sonic experience not to be missed.

Having performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center (New York), The Esplanade (Singapore), and major venues across seven countries, The Awakenings Ensemble brings world-class artistry and emotional depth to The Duke of George.

The Western Australian Government through DLGSC proudly supports this tour.
