Alcides Neto - Amú Album Launch presented by BEMAC and Music In Exile 

Alcides Neto is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Narrm/Melbourne. Drawing inspiration from the folk traditions of his homeland, Alcides offers a fresh perspective on Brazilian music by blending traditional rhythms with contemporary Brazilian jazz, samba, bossa and more. Known for his distinctive percussive guitar playing and warm, soothing vocals, he brings an authentic Brazilian feel to every performance. 

This year, Alcides will launch his debut album Amú via the Music in Exile label. Featuring eight original compositions recorded at Head Gap Studios, Melbourne with a band made up of some of the finest players that city has to offer, Amú is a nostalgic, celebratory journey into the landscapes of Alcides’ homeland. It reminisces on the cultural traditions and family networks left behind, while looking hopefully to new horizons up ahead. For fans of Gilberto Gil, Jorge Ben Jor, and all the samba greats. 

Joining Alcides is none other than Selvagem Soul, a hybrid live outfit straddling two continents, deep in the pocket between Brazil and Australia. Drawing on MPB, Bossa Nova, Samba, Tropicália, 60s psychedelia, funk, soul and trip-hop, the four-piece brings together São Paulo-raised songwriter THi, Sydney-born vocalist Maitê Inaê, bassist Doc Proctor (Quarteracre, Little Aida) and producer/turntablist KlevaOne for a sound as sun-soaked as it is genre-defying. Catch them opening the night before Alcides Neto takes the stage.
