Damon Poppleton Orchestra + New Sun at Lazybones Lounge Restaurant & Bar

The Damon Poppleton Orchestra is an exciting new ensemble that presents the original music and arrangements of Damon Poppleton, his brother Flynn Poppleton and some carefully curated selections from the library of the great Bob Brookmeyer.

The group showcases Damon’s strong and unwavering dedication to the big band tradition, being deeply inspired and informed by the values of swing presented by Count Basie, while drawn to the artistry of contemporary composers and bandleaders such as Florian Ross, Maria Schneider and the late great Jim McNeely.

Featuring an intergenerational lineup composed of the leading musicians of tomorrow as well as established players in this artform, this group showcases some of the hippest jazz soloists and ensemble players in Sydney.

New SunThe music of contemporary jazz quintet New Sun is filled with optimism, sweeping arks of melody and harmony, to flourishes of groove and space. Rooted in jazz nostalgia, New Sun’s music intersects the history and groove of swing with the harmonic sophistication and nuances of contemporary jazz, classical and hip hop. 

The group introduces audiences to young contemporary jazz musicians, with Zac Sandilands on piano, Matthew Ling on bass, Jack Rosenzweig on drums, Justin Yeo on tenor saxophone, and Alexander Grace on trombone. 

Driven by the sincerity and honesty of melody, New Sun engages in improvised musical dialogue that reflects each member's personal voice and expression, ultimately creating a sound that is both accessible and thought provoking.
